For the past few TBC (Total Body Conditioning) classes that I’ve taught, we’ve been working on progressively building up to a more challenging move. Since burpees areone of my favorite exercise and it’s not always a class favorite, I put the together aTABATA workout that consisted of a progressive burpee – basically breaking up a burpee into 4 steps, doing one step for 20 seconds, taking a 10 second rest and then moving on to step 2, repeating through to step 4. By the end, we are doing full burpees! Then, the sequence is repeated 1-3 more times through creating a 4-8 minute workout.
Mentally, breaking up an exercise puts it in a new perspective and makes it less daunting than spending 4-8 minutes doing the same exercise. It also allows the body to build endurance, eventually being able to complete the most advanced form of the exercise longer.
Try it out!
